Mike Miller

Our pastor has been around. Seriously. Not only is he a former jet pilot from Odessa, TX, but he has pastored churches in Maryland, Alabama, and New Orleans. He has also done mission work in Brazil, Mexico, Ukraine, East Asia, and all over the United States.

He entered vocational ministry in 1992 when he loaded up his wife and two kids and headed to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. You would think that earning his Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages would be enough, especially since he already had a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation from Louisiana Tech University. But you would be wrong. He went on to earn a Doctor of Ministry degree from our Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY as well as a Master of Theology and a PhD from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also taught preaching, leadership, and pastoral ministry courses for several years. His wife Terri informed him that that was enough schooling, thank you.

Pastor Mike has pretty diverse tastes. He loves eating Mexican food, flying airplanes, going to the movies with Terri, and watching baseball. His favorite movie, by the way, is A Man from Snowy River, and he says that if he weren’t a pastor, his dream job would be as a Major League umpire (really!). People also think Mike likes to run and workout, but the truth of the matter is that he likes bacon and pie, so he has to run and workout.

When asked his favorite Scripture passage, he said, “I have too many to put in my bio, but I love 2 Corinthians 8:18, which mentions an anonymous person who is known for preaching the gospel. Nobody knows his name, but everybody knows his message. I want to be that guy.”

Mike is an open book, so it’s easy to get to know him. And what you’ll learn right away is that family is what he values most. He is crazy about Terri and proud of their three grown kids: Bryan (wife, Claire), Bailey, and Michael. But if you want to see him really get excited, ask him about his grandkids, Riley, Liam, Embree, and Hadley. They have definitely stolen his heart.

Mike and Terri came to Central in January of 2017, and they feel like they got a little closer to heaven when they did. Their favorite thing about Central is the people. “These are the sweetest people ever!” says Terri. They hope to be here a really long time. And we hope so too!
