Coby Duren

Family Ministries

Coby was raised on a ranch near Corsicana, TX, and he speaks Texan! He’s fairly new to the ministry, having come to Central in June of 2013 to serve in his first church staff position. Don’t let his youth and his twang fool you, though, Coby is one sharp guy. He has a hunger for knowledge—especially when it comes to theology. And the boy can preach!

He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX, and a Masters of Theology degree from Howard Payne University.

Coby likes to hunt, play soccer, and eat barbecue. In fact, he considers himself quite the expert in all three of those and even says that if he weren’t in ministry, he’d be a soccer coach. The one thing he really doesn’t like to do is run on a treadmill. “I hate doing all that work and not going anywhere,” he says. I guess that makes sense when we consider that his favorite Scripture is Hebrews 12:1-3, which talks about running a race that is definitely going somewhere.

He also hates snakes and airplanes (which is weird, because airplanes get you somewhere fast, and you don’t have to do any work). I guess it’s not surprising that his favorite movie is not Snakes on a Plane! No, he likes Cinderella Man, and his favorite actor is John Wayne (do you think we should tell him John Wayne didn’t star in Cinderella Man?).

Coby’s favorite thing about Central? “Central is family!” he says. Of course, his real family is his sweet wife Courtney and their three little girls, Aubrey and Avery, and Allison but we can tell he loves the rest of us a lot. We love him too, and we plan to keep him around as long as we can.
